Usage[]
Fuel consumption is based on your fuel efficiency, engine power and having your ship lights on. The higher the efficiency and the lower the power, the less consumption.
Fuel gets consumed faster when the "Full Power!" mode is activated, by either pressing F on your keyboard or by clicking on the flame next to the fuel consumption blue bar, which will result in a higher speed but also higher Engine temperature.
In normal cruise, the equation for fuel consumption is as follows: (((Engine Power*0.0005)*(1-Fuel Efficiency))*Gear Speed)+Light = Fuel drain/s(in %)
Where:
- Gear Speed is 1 for half speed and 2 for full speed
- Light is 0 if off, 1 if on. (this means that the ship's light use 1% of fuel every second, regardless of your speed)
This means that:
- If you use the Compulsion (+3500) alone, you'll use 1.75%/s fuel at half speed w/lights off, 2.75%/s half speed w/lights on, 3.5%/s full speed w/lights off, and 4.5%/s full speed w/lights on.
- If you use the Fulgent Impeller (+5000, +50% efficiency) alone, you'll use 1.25%/s fuel at half speed w/lights off, 2.25%/s half speed w/lights on, 2.5%/s full speed w/lights off, and 3.5%/s full speed w/lights on.
In short, there is no additional efficiency to be had by choosing to go at half speed versus full speed. At half speed, with your prow lamp off, you will consume half as much fuel over time but take twice as long to cover the distance, consuming the same amount of fuel relative to distance. With your prow lamp on, you will actually lose more fuel relative to distance when travelling slowly (+57% with Compulsion, +80% with Fulgent Impeller). Also, because it takes you twice as long to travel anywhere, you will consume twice as many supplies to cover the same distance. Therefore, to save both on fuel and supplies, you should travel at full speed except when stealth or precise navigation are required (e.g., in combat, to avoid a collision, or to use your zee-bat). The obvious exception is Full Power!, which is clearly far less efficient and should be used only in emergencies.
