Sortable tables[]

Hey Tagaziel, are there any sortable tables in this wiki?--S3Ld0m (talk) 18:32, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Text colour and formats[]

Hey! I've been thinking about text colours currently on the wiki. Here's a list of examples I suggest:

Great Idea! I've expanded this with templates. The advantage, besides a lot less markup when editing the wiki, is that all usages will be uniform across the wiki, and a change in a single place (modifying the template itself) will be automatically reflected everywhere! MestreLion (talk) 08:33, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Use the {{Action}} template for actions. Example:
    • Take him with you action.

  • Use the {{Game note}} template for game notes. Example:
    • Game note: This is a game note.

  • Use the "to" for a range of outcomes of the same result. Example:

  • Use the {{link qty}} template for a combination colored quantity, link, and optionally and icon. Example:

Some of the possible values for SS tentgreensmall.png Pigmote Isle: Spirit are:

  • [3] Conflicted
  • [4] Argumentative
  • [5] Content
  • [6] Optimistic

In interaction tables, use the templates {{Style inner header}}, {{style inner cell}} and {{effect title}}. Example:

Interaction Unlocked by Effects Notes
Open the treasure
  • Iron Challenge
Failed event some notes...
A Poor Result
  • +5 x Terror
Successful event (30%)
Somewhat Better
  • +1 x Fuel
  • +2 x Supplies
Rare Event (1%)
An Amazing Treasure!
  • +10 x Fuel
  • +20 x Supplies
  • +10 x Vital Intelligence
  • +30 x Searing Enigma

Other suggestions not (yet) available as templates:

  • Use italic and quotes for the text result outcomes. Example:
    • The outcome result is "A good night out".
  • Use yellow for conditional results. Example:
    • "A good night out" OR "A marvelous night out".
  • Use bold and grey for status changes. Example:
  • Use italic and grey for status getting disabled. Example:

What do you think of this? S3Ld0m (talk) 19:12, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Hey Tagaziel[]

You don't need to apologize for anything! Reality hits you hard, bro! ahah :D Yeah, I saw it on the forums and I was very happy! :) Still, there are lots of pages that need to be created/updated. I'll resume once I get more free time! :) S3Ld0m (talk) 09:49, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Hey, you may have noticed we're getting a larger main page due to the News. Is there any way to only show, for instance, the first 5 news items? Since you're the code guru, you might have dealt with this kind of situation before :) S3Ld0m (talk) 11:56, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Long time no zee! Love the new skin and logo! As a matter of fact, I was looking at replacing the logo but never had the time to do it. Anyway, I've been busy revamping the whole page layout. I felt the content was either unclear or too confusing so I added some images and created new categories to ease the wiki navigation. See Isle of Cats for an example. Lot's of WIP's! User page causing wiki to crash[]

Hey Tagaziel, how are you? :) So, I tried updating my to-do list on my page and that caused the wiki to crash. Sinegenere tried on his page and reported the same problem. Maybe it's something in the code? Anyway, it's not too important. Just to let you know! :) S3Ld0m (talk) 19:31, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Hum, I gotta look into AWB, looks interesting! Ahah, yeah I reckon that many users will join the wiki at that time! Content is going smoothly as well! As for SS, I was hoping for a giant eye attack.. maybe on the zubmarine expansion? :D S3Ld0m (talk) 17:17, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Hey! :) Yeah, that is a great idea! Although we don't have any guide apart from the Getting started page.. yet! Someone will eventually do it as I, for one, am more of a organizer than writer! :) I've looked into other wikis to get other ideas but most of them got links to important sections, like you suggested. Maybe something similar to the main page navigation? You probably know what's best! :) S3Ld0m (talk) 12:11, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Looks great! A few questions though: Is a section within a section feasible? How about some images behind the links? Similarly to the pages format? Or that would look weird? Thanks Tagaziel! :) S3Ld0m (talk) 17:59, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your trust and confidence! :) Yes, it's been a long time since I saw KorGgenT around here. I don't mind patrolling at all but sometimes Sinegenere goes on a wiki-spree and I can't keep up! :D Should you need anything, just ask! S3Ld0m (talk) 20:12, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Change of Username/nickname[]

Hey Tagaziel! It might be for the best if i changed my username... do you by any chance know how this is done? Is it by request? Doaflipfaggot (talk) 14:11, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Templates and filenames[]

Glad you liked it! I'm quite proud of them too, this was my first time messing with templates. And it's SO much easier to edit wikis using them! Pages get so much cleaner and normalized :)

I mass replace would not work, because many pages are not standarized yet. So manual replace is safer, every page I come across I edit and replace a few style markups to use the templates, hoping future editors will see the clue and follow.

The main issue is image filenames: templates such as Template:Link icon and friends by default require pages to have an image with a matching filename, so Hearts require SS Hearts.png. But the current standard seems to be SS [category] [page name].png, which IMHO is a poor standard: it is impossible (or much expensive) for a template to figure out what is the category of a page (and pages can have multiple categories, making this much harder). Besides, categories do not belong in file names, there are other (and better) ways to categorize them (there's wiki media categories for that very reason!).

As a workaround, I'm moving (renaming/redirecting) files to match their page names, so the templates can work out-of-the-box.

A naming standard I recommend would name files by their usage context, something like:

  • SS [page name].png - The "main" image for a page. Used as the most representative image, and as a fallback for the other types. Eg, SS pensmall.png
  • SS [page name]-ICON.png - The image to be used in icon contexts: SS Icon Pages.png
  • SS [page name]-LARGE.png - A large version, usually the gazzette version. See the difference between SS guineapigsmall.png (mascot icon) and SS guineapiggaz.png

The large versions would be used in infoboxes and main listings such as Officers. The small ones for icons and thumbnails.

It's very important that the naming should be WIKI-oriented, not GAME-oriented. So name them after their destination, like Infobox, Icon, Thumb, etc, and not source keywords like Gazette, Statistics, Quality, Officer, etc, unless there is an easy way for a template (or human editor) to figure out the matching

Check the infoboxes on the mascots, and compare them with the Officers listing. Some of the images are from in-game Officers screen, some from the Gazette. For the Comatose Ferret there are 2 gazette versions! (one very low-quality, but still large, check its infobox)! And The Guinea Page infobox uses the officer (small) version.

There must be a clear convention on what image to use in which wiki context.

Picture names and sizes etc.[]

SO from what I've seen in images is that there are quite a lot of duplicates and also some of those pictures are also aren't uploaded to the standards set in

My guess is those where probably uploaded before that was made.

So what I have been doing for some of them is making redirects so you can use the templates and renaming the correct files to their original name.

Is what I've been doing unwanted or welcomed? Before I start doing more of them and find them being deleted.

Also how long do I generally need to wait for a page marked for deletion to get deleted considering the other mods seem to be inactive

last btw: Is there any standard for column sizes of the tables?

BiscuitCookie (talk) 17:05, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Just to clarify as to why a lot of the pictures aren't following the standards in the Beginners Wiki Guide. Right now SporksAreGoodForYou has created a script that's capable of going through the game files and exporting all the interactions in the standard table format. The image links outputted from the script have the same name as the pictures taken from the raw game file. You could fix this by going through every page that SporksAreGoodForYou has made and manually change the picture names or just upload the default names from the game files. The guide was created before the script existed which is why there's a discrepancy. I don't know who owns this wiki and could decide once and for all, but right now uploading the pictures with the default file name allows the pages created by the script to have working image links. Signapur (talk) 17:32, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
Ahh. I wrote my script many moons ago, when the game was first released, and just exported all the original interactions. I've tweaked it a little now so it works with the new data, but hadn't seen any of the formatting guides. Since there's still an awful lot of stuff still to go, I can change the script to spit out the correct image names - just let me know what the correct version is. SporksAreGoodForYou (talk)
The image name should just be the original file name and the items, qualities etc, using that image should just be redirect file pages to that image.
Here is an example of what I was talking about with two different items having uploaded pictures that are basically the same but edited. The one that has a redirect was uploaded by sporks which had the correct file but the incorrect name which I changed by moving it which also automatically made a redirect which link icon can make use for.
the item an unstamped crate of brilliant souls should also be a redirect towards bottledsoulbluesmall so any other item with that name can use the correct image. BiscuitCookie (talk) 18:19, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
I agree with having the name of the files on the wiki the same name as the original file name it will help with looking through the game files. I agree with the idea of redirecting current links to the original file names to not break any of the links, but to prevent having hundreds of image redirects it would be better to just use the original file name in the page. Example, instead of having File:SS Story Trade Stories with the Congregation.png just use File:SS declaim.png in the original page. You'll need Dracarya if you want to start deleting any of the pictures and creating redirects. We should also ask him what he thinks as he's the admin I think. He's been deleting some of the pictures with the original file names saying they are duplicate. Signapur (talk) 18:58, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
I mostly mentioned the the creation of redirects so that you can use the {link qty} and {link icon} templates without assigning a picture manually. that way you can just type in the quality or item etc. and have it work completely. It's mostly a convenience thing. for example SS cheeryman2small.png Objective: An Assignment for the Cheery Man and SS cheeryman2small.png Favours: A Proposal from a Man of Business both work of of the same picture while using different names. While these are supposed to use same image while being different items SS bottledsoulbluesmall.png Unstamped Crate of Brilliant Souls and 23px Crate of Brilliant Human Souls. The second doesn't automatically get the picture because there is no redirect for that name. BiscuitCookie (talk) 20:18, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

Island, enemy pictures and other such assets.[]

So I have been wondering how you managed to get those island pictures you uploaded like this one . I tried to extract files from the assets of sunless, following the instructions on the beginner's wiki, to get those type of pictures for enemies to no success.- BiscuitCookie (talk) 09:27, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Locking the Official Sunless Sea Wiki talk page[]

Hi Tagaziel, There's been a history of spam on the front page talk page and recently I've been having to undo spam on it every couple of days. I was wondering if you could either lock the page or delete it (it's never had any useful comments) and then forbid people from making it. Not sure what's the easiest way of solving this for you. Just wanting to bring this matter up to you. Let me know how you think we should proceed. Signapur (talk) 21:37, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
